1st Annual 'Penalty Kick & Goalkeeper Challenge'
SPFSA Fundraiser for Resolve Community Counseling

The SPFSA will christen its two new lighted fields by crowning individual penalty kick and goalkeeper champions in each age division, U-9 to U-17 boys and girls in a combined House, Inter-County and Travel competition. The preliminary elimination round will be Saturday, October 18th @ VoTech field and the championship round will be a week later, Saturday, October 25th @ Southside Field. Registration is a family friendly $10 for the first child and $5 for each additional one. Click here for complete rules, schedules and registration information.

All proceeds from this challenge will be donated to Resolve Community Counseling Center, a not-for-profit mental health facility located in Scotch Plains serving the needs of our kids, our families and our schools. Resolve makes a quiet, but very significant difference in our community. Come out, have some fun and support a worthy cause.

Southside Field Opens!
Important New Turf Rules for Coaches, Players & Parents

The Scotch Plains Department of Parks and Recreation has proudly opened the new Southside turf field on-time and under budget, but asks that the SPFSA observe some basic rules to assure proper care and maintenance of this major investment. Coaches are reminded that the goals are not to be moved from their endline position. Players are asked to rely on water for hydration purposes and not to bring snack items, bubble gum and sodas, juices or sugar-based energy drinks onto the field.

Parents are asked to observe all soccer activity from outside of the fenced area and to set-up lawn chairs on the path near the bleacher pads. (Spectator visibility will be improved prior to the spring season). Parking should not interfere with the designated spaces for the volunteer fire department adjacent to the firehouse. All other general field rules including the request that parents refrain from smoking and bringing dogs to this venue remain in effect. We really need full cooperation. Thanks.

Please Practice Good Field Courtesy
Litter and Dogs are Consistent Offenses

The Municipalities of Scotch Plains and Fanwood and the BOE remind parents, players and coaches that dogs are absolutely prohibited from all fields and parks. They also request that all litter and water bottles be put in receptacles at the end of games and practices. Smoking and the consumption of alcohol is also strictly prohibited.
Ball Field Hotline Number @ 908-322-6700-1-226
If in Doubt, Please Check It Out

Coaches are expected to check the hotline in the event of inclement weather or if prior rains have resulted in wet grounds. The hotline is updated by 3:00 pm on weekdays and by 7:00 am on weekends by Scotch Plains Parks and Recreation. Field jurisdiction and the SPFSA field closing policy is detailed in the Field Information link.
Important Safety Reminder
Thunder & Lightning Warrants Immediate Shutdown

Coaches, players and parents are reminded that the first sign of thunder or lightning mandates that all soccer activity be shutdown. Participants should find shelter in buildings or motor vehicles and remain there for at least 15 minutes beyond the last rumble of thunder or final bolt of lightning. There are no exceptions to this rule. Our field partners and our insurer expect  this safety policy to be honored at all times.
