Welcome to the Scotch Plains Fanwood Soccer Association House Division

The “house” division of our association provides boys and girls with the opportunity to play and learn soccer.  In this instructional and recreational program, all children actively participate with others in their same grades.  Our house programs offers children from preschool (age 4) through grade 4 what should be a fun and exciting as well as competitive experience playing the world’s most popular and beautiful game.

PreK:  The teams are mixed boys and girls on each team.  Children must be 4 years old by the start of the season to play.  Games are played once a week.  T-shirts will be given to each team.  There are no practices during the week.  Before each game, professional soccer trainers from the Red Bulls organization will lead all children in fun warm up activities.  The purpose of these activators is to get all children comfortable with being on the field with other children and learning how to “play with their toy”.  Following these activities, games will be played in a nonstop fashion with coaches facilitating the play.  The registration for this division is seasonal (and must be done so before each season), allowing children to play either the fall and/or the spring season.

Kindergarten: In this division the teams are separated into separate boys and girls league.  Each team will have a regularly schedule practice during the week and one game on Saturday mornings.  Each game will be preceded by a small training session (15 minutes) lead by one of our Red Bulls trainers.  These activities are to prepare the children for their game as well as serve as reinforcement for what they may have learned during the week.  Small sided (3-3) games will follow with the emphasis on the children learning soccer by playing the game.  Registration for the program is for the entire year (fall and spring) but children who did not play in the fall are welcome to register to play the spring season.

1st grade: This program builds upon the small soccer model where games are now played in 4v4 fashion.  The game progresses with more of an emphasis on the rules (restarts, etc.) as the children get older (in the spring season).  Each team will have a regularly schedule practice during the week and one game on Saturday mornings.  Coaches are now removed from the field as the players negotiate and learn to play soccer independently.  Registration for the program is for the entire year (fall and spring) but children who did not play in the fall are welcome to register to play the spring season.

2nd grade:  The second graders move to a more traditional game with an emphasis still as much as possible on the game being “small-sided”  The games are officiated by a youth official (from town) and are played on a bigger field with real goals!  Each team will have a regularly schedule practice during the week and one game on Saturday mornings.  Registration for the program is for the entire year (fall and spring) but children who did not play in the fall are welcome to register to play the spring season.

3rd/4th grade: The oldest division of the house program allows 3rd and 4th graders to play together.  The games are played on a larger field and are still officiated by local youth officials.  Each team will have a regularly schedule practice during the week and one game on Saturday mornings.  The registration for this division is seasonal (and must be done so before each season), allowing children to play either the fall and/or the spring season.
